To maximize your chances of winning, it is imperative to be in a good position before the betting phase. This is accomplished by studying your opponents, estimating their ranges, and taking advantage of this information to make calculated decisions.
After each player has 2 cards, there is a round of betting that begins with the two mandatory bets called antes and blinds put into the pot by the players to the left of the dealer. Then another card is dealt face up – this is called the flop.
After the flop, there is another round of betting that begins with the player to the left of the dealer. If you have a strong hand, it is a good idea to raise before the other players can call your bet and you’ll be in a better position to win. On the other hand, if you don’t have a strong hand, it is generally better to fold before you risk losing more money to other players.
